FREE LESSONS AND PLAY
For those of you drawn to the "free" part of this header - the free is over (for now). We are now in week 7 of a 15 week course on learning to play bridge. The first 6 weeks were free (sorry if you missed them) and we really accomplished a lot. For anyone who was not bitten by the love-bug, and will not be continuing on, I hope you will continue to play bridge and have many hours of enjoyment the game has to offer. For the rest of you, WHOOPEEEE... a mere $5.00 will get you more of ME - my bad jokes, my good food and of course, more ranting about 'taking all your tricks (and some of theirs).
LEARN TO PLAY BRIDGE PROGRAM
So far, Millie is the only one I know that downloaded the program mentioned in the last newsletter so she is fully entitled to the $1.00 off Lesson 7. Unfortunately she won't be here (sorry Millie) but let me know if you download it and will get $1.00 off Lesson 7 - the very first non-free lesson! Again, I hope the ACBL has enough bandwidth to handle all of you hitting it all at once :-).
A workshop button (above) is now posted on the home page.( I have no idea why they call it a "button"). Click on it and a new page will open describing the theme (bidding) and near the bottom is a drop down menu for the different workshops. Click on any (or select all) and a page will open where you enter your availability. When we have 8 people (2 tables) for any workshop, we will schedule it according to the day and time you picked. I will reconfirm with you that you are still available before posting it on the website calendar in case others want to join us.
NOTE: These workshops are great if you do not know how to play or could not attend the lessons. It is a jump start on learning 80% of what bridge is all about!
VACATION VACATION VACATION
Who is Where this week? I think I've lost track!
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Good News! We now have a semi-permanent site for our lessons/game. Starting June 25th we will be at the Eastlake Pavilion located on the lake at Eastlake. There is a map posted on the directions link on the home page (map icon). They will let us store the tables there (we have to unfold them)but it will make setup a LOT easier. For now, the association has given it to us for all of July and the first two weeks of August. The location will be posted on the calendar for the specific dates.
RESPONDING TO NO TRUMP OPENING
Last week we went over the responses to no trump openings. We touched on Stayman and Jacoby transfers but for now we are happy if the person limits their hand on the first response. We will work on mastering that, and keep in mind the use of Stayman and transfers and look for an opportunity to use them. Check the calendar for what's coming this week.
Hope to see you all on Wednesday.
Remember: Take all your tricks (and some of theirs).
